India

A Hyderabad-Anchored Tour

I grew up in Hyderabad and visit every year or two. India isn't one country; it's at least fifteen, and any honest write-up has to admit that up front. This is a working sketch of a route I've put together for friends visiting from Europe — the version that gets them the most variety in a manageable two weeks.

Route, day by day

Days 1–3. Hyderabad: Charminar at dawn (before the crowds), Golconda Fort in the late afternoon, biryani at a place an aunt will recommend over your protest. Two evenings around Hussain Sagar are enough to feel the city.

Days 4–5. Hyderabad → Mumbai (1h flight). The Gateway of India, the Kala Ghoda neighbourhood, and a Marine Drive walk at sunset. South Mumbai is small enough to walk in two days, dense enough to fill a week.

Days 6–8. Mumbai → Delhi (2h flight). Old Delhi for the food and the chaos; New Delhi for the wide-boulevard contrast. A half-day at Humayun's Tomb is more rewarding than a half-day at the Red Fort.

Days 9–10. Delhi → Agra → Jaipur (the Golden Triangle by train). Yes, the Taj Mahal is worth it; yes, get there at sunrise.

Days 11–12. Jaipur → Udaipur (overnight train or one-hour flight). Udaipur is the slow, lake-bound corrective to the Delhi/Agra pace.

Days 13–14. Return to Hyderabad via Mumbai. One last home-cooked meal. Try not to overpack snacks for the flight back.

Practical notes

What I'd write more about

Note: Working draft based on memory and a route I'd recommend. I'll expand each day with photos, specific places, and longer reflections as I revisit my notes.
